ANCHORAGE -- The Wasilla Warriors finished third in the West High Christmas Classic wrestling tournament in Anchorage last weekend.
The Warriors earned 134 points in the tourney. Service won the event with 231.5 points and Chugiak finished second with 187.5.
A pair of grapplers advanced to the finals for the Warriors. Duane Carpenter defeated Chugiak's Cayle Bowers 6-0 in the 125-pound final.
Juneau's John Ritter pinned Wasilla's John Olson during the first round of the 215-pound final.
Alan Bartelli and Danny Lyles each finished third for Wasilla. Bartelli pinned Kodiak's Lucas Fried in the 103-pound consolation finals. Lyles defeated Juneau's Dontae Santos to take third.
Armon Pettijohn (140) and Mike Trudeau (145) placed fourth for Wasilla.
The Warriors were without several of their big guns in the tournament.
Gunner Brannon (119), Jake Wade (171), Jed Wade (189) and Jeremiee Meisler (275) competed in the Reno Tournament of Champions during the weekend.
Chris Odom, the top-ranked wrestler in the state at 135, is currently out with mononucleosis.
