The area high school boys' and girls' basketball teams played games during the weekend before starting into the holiday break.
The biggest match up of the weekend came with the meeting of the Palmer Moose and the Wasilla Warriors boys' and girls' teams at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla boys
roll past Moose
The Palmer boys' team stayed close to the Warriors throughout the first half, going into halftime down 39-32, but couldn't hold the balanced Warriors' attack as Wasilla rolled to an 82-52 win Friday night at Wasilla High School.
The inside attack of Ray Schafer, Travis Webb and Adam Fitt-Chappell coupled with the outside shooting of Scott Faeo and Fitt-Chappell was too much to cover as the Warriors extended their lead to 20 points in the third quarter, then cruised in the fourth to take the victory.
Schafer led all scorers with 25 points, with Fitt-Chappell adding 23. Webb scored 17 points and Faeo knocked
in 14.
Zac Forsyth scored 18 points for the Moose.
Alex Hill drained three three-pointers in the fourth quarter to tally 12 points in the game.
Wasilla girls
dominate Moose
The Wasilla girls jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a convincing 68-34 win over the Palmer Moose last Friday at Wasilla High School.
Brittney Kroon controlled the inside game for Wasilla, scoring 16 points while forcing Palmer to shoot from outside the paint.
Christie Hayes also contributed 16 points for the Warriors, with Chandice Cronk adding 13 and Marsha Schirack 12. Cronk and Hayes hit three three-pointers each in the game.
Emily Bolling scored eight points and Jhacie Azure deposited eight points, including two three-pointers, for the Moose.
Colony boys
fall to Dimond
The Knights played a strong first half of basketball against Dimond last Friday, taking a 22-18 lead at halftime, but couldn't contain the Lynx as they rushed to a 50-35 win at Colony High School.
The Lynx scored 32 points in the second half while holding the Knights to 13.
Landon Swank scored nine points for Colony in the game.
Su Valley girls
downed by Heritage
The Su Valley girls ran into a buzz saw Friday against Heritage, losing an early season match-up 76-21.
The Rams were unable to contain Heritage's early 27-2 first quarter game run.
Melissa McNulty highlighted the Rams' effort with 12 points in the game.
Su Valley boys suffer loss
The Su Valley boys also had a tough time with Heritage, falling 71-38 last Friday.
The Rams were able to stay close with a 14-12 deficit in the first quarter, but couldn't hold back the Heritage attack in the second quarter.
Peter Olson scored 11 points for the Rams with Tye Steadman contributing nine.
