WASILLA — Wasilla’s USPS carrier annex is responding to customer requests with state-of-the-art improvements for retail and mail delivery service in the Mat-Su.

Alaska District Marketing Manager Dawn Peppinger, Retail Specialist Blessie Lochmann, and Business Development Officer Susi Morgan were on hand at a small reception held Saturday at the busy hub just off Palmer-Wasilla Highway. A new customer service window, retail racks and work counters were installed ahead of the Customer Appreciation Day.

The new Mobile Point of Sales device, or mPOS, enables multiple clerks to serve customers, accept flat rate shipments, and sell a limited selection of stamps. This expansion allows the site’s traffic, which was previously limited to retrieval of parcels, to conduct more business at the Annex.

Plans for monthly Passport Fairs along the rural road system will be forthcoming throughout the summer, which are intended to help Alaskans comply with RealID requirements. Peppinger noted that the Annex does not accept cash and is limited to credit cards or debit cards not requiring a PIN. Their weekday hours remain the same: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with closure for lunch between 1 and 2 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The Annex serves customers from Hyer Road to Willow, with contract delivery service and carrier routes for tens of thousands of people.

According to Peppinger, “The Wasilla Carrier Annex is one of the largest carrier operations in Alaska, situated in a rapidly growing community.” She and her staff encourage patrons to rate their experiences to ensure needs are being met. “We’re always here for customer feedback. A link to a quick (online) survey is available after their transaction,” she said.
