The Wasilla Warriors boys track and field team made school history.
Wasilla won the boys state track team title for the first time during ASAA/First National Bank State Track and Field Championships at Dimond High School in Anchorage.
Eric Kolomeychuk, Deshawn Campbell and Dylan Jeffus each won individual events to help the Warriors finish first in the Division I boys team standings. Kolomeychuk set a personal record in the shot put, winning the event with a throw of 54 feet, 4.5 inches. Campbell also PR’d to win his title in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 16.05. Dylan Jeffus won the long jump for the Warriors.
Jeffus placed in the top 4 three times, also finishing second in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump. Campbell was also second in the 300 hurdles. Timothy Grisso was second in the 200 and fourth in the 100. Kade Reynolds placed third in the 110 hurdles for the Warriors, and Brennan Lackey (3200) and Liam Hays (discus) were fourth for the Wasilla boys.
Kolomeychuk, Campbell and Jeffus were among seven Valley athletes to win individual state titles. Katey Houser led the Palmer girls with a victory and personal best time of 57.97 seconds in the 400 meters. Houston’s Emily Bitler won the Division II girls shot put with a throw of 106-4. A pair of Redington Huskies captured boys state title at the Division II level. Pharrel Carter won the 100 and Cort Sandefur was first in the shot put. Sandefur also placed second in the discus.
Houser also placed second in the 3,200 and fourth in the 200 for the Palmer girls. Her teammates Sarah Uschmann (second in the shot put) and Brooke Hronkin (third in the triple jump) also placed in the top 4.
Parker Glastetter (third in the discus) and Arthur Merritt (fourth in the 300 hurdles) led the Palmer boys.
Layla Hays finished second in the discus to lead the Wasilla girls, and Bella Hays was third in both the shot put and discus.
Ella Hopkins was second in the 1,600 and fourth in the 800 to lead the Colony girls.
Ryan Sheldon was third in the 300 hurdles to lead the Colony boys, and Matthew Rongitsch was fourth in both the 1,600 and 3,200;
Mya Campbell was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump for the Redington girls, and Destiny Simmons placed fourth.
