A Wasilla man remained at Valley Hospital Monday after being run over by a Bronco Thursday, while a woman he had reportedly been drinking with earlier in the day is being charged for attempted murder.
Lorayne Sue Johnson, 43, of Wasilla, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, three counts of third-degree assault, felony driving while intoxicated and felony refusal to submit to a chemical breath test after allegedly running over Jeffrey (Jesse) R. Beebe, 43, following an argument at Beebe's home.
Alaska State Troopers and Wasilla Police officers responded Nov. 14, at 3:50 a.m. to a report that someone had been run over by a car at a residence near Mile 46 Parks Hwy., where witnesses reported a fight involving several people.
According to court documents, Johnson, who was driving a brown 1988 Ford Bronco, and Tim Redington, reportedly went to Beebe's home to retrieve a vehicle Beebe was working on.
At Beebe's home, witnesses said a fight ensued between members of Beebe's family and Redington in Beebe's garage, in front of the Bronco. Johnson then ran over Beebe with the Bronco, according to charging documents filed in Palmer Superior Court. A witness said after Beebe crawled out from under the Bronco Redington held a small engine over Beebe's head, threatening that he "would kill him," according to court documents. Johnson reportedly tried to run over Beebe again, and ran the Bronco into two witnesses. One witness reportedly told troopers he was afraid Johnson was going to kill them by squashing them against the wall.
Johnson then left the scene with Redington in the Bronco. According to court documents, she was subsequently apprehended at the residence of Redington's daughter, who was reported to be Beebe's girlfriend.
Beebe reportedly told troopers who talked with him at the hospital that Johnson and Redington had come to his property in the Bronco, after which he tried to stop a confrontation between Redington and his family. Beebe reportedly said he was fighting with Redington when Johnson yelled "I'm going to kill you," ran over him with the Bronco, and then tried to do it again, but he had got out of the way.
Charging documents reflect that Johnson told troopers Beebe had previously wrecked their vehicle and was repairing it, and they went to the residence to get it back. She reportedly told troopers Beebe and his family had jumped Redington for no reason and had hit her with a two-by-four, breaking out the driver's window in the Bronco and getting glass all over her. Johnson allegedly denied running the Bronco over anyone, and refused to provide a breath sample on the Datamaster, saying that she had not been driving.
Redington reportedly told troopers that Beebe's family had hit him several times with a two-by-four, and complained of pain to his right shoulder, head and ribs.
According to court records, no charges were filed against Redington.
Johnson is being held at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 bail, plus a court-approved third-party custodian.
Beebe was taken to Valley Hospital, where he remained as of Monday morning, for treatment of a fractured hip.
