WASILLA — A vehicle accident on Knik-Goose Bay Road claimed the life of a Wasilla resident over the New Year’s weekend. Kathryn Gilgus, 59, died Sunday after losing control of her Subaru station wagon at about 12:42 p.m. while traveling north on Knik-Goose Bay Road near Fern Street, the Wasilla Police Department reports. Gilgus’ vehicle drifted toward the right side of the road and entered a patch of soft snow, Officer Jentry Crain said. Her vehicle collided head-on with a Ford passenger van driven by Richard Tingstad, 43, also of Wasilla. Tingstad and his passengers were released after receiving medial treatment for minor injuries.
