Wasilla woman faces drug charges for texting Soldotna girl

WASILLA — A 19-year-old Wasilla woman is facing drug charges in Kenai, for mistakenly texting a 12-year-old girl to arrange to sell her a bag of marijuana, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The girl’s father called Soldotna troopers on Saturday just after 9 p.m. and told them his daughter had received suspicious text messages that evening, suggesting a drug sale. “Troopers went to the girl’s home and were in the living room area during the back and forth,” trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said in an e-mail Monday afternoon.

That “back and forth” took place in texts between the troopers and someone named “Megan.” Megan texted that she would meet the girl outside the Soldotna Holiday store. She noted that she would be in a silver Toyota Camry and would sell her a bag of marijuana.

Troopers found the Camry at the Holiday store, talked with Megan Mclemore and found that Mclemore had been texting the 12-year-old by mistake. They found three bags of marijuana inside the car.

A man accompanying Mclemore, Joseph Keeton, 19, of Anchorage, reportedly consented to have troopers search his backpack. They found several Percocet and Vicodin pills inside and Keeton reportedly admitted to not having a prescription for the pills.

Troopers did not arrest Mclemore and Keeton but said they plan to file charges of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance against Keeton and fifth-degree MICS against Mclemore.

“Both Megan and Joseph have cooperated with troopers since the initial contact,” Peters said.

Charging documents on the case had not yet been filed as of Monday afternoon, according to staff at the Kenai District Court. Peters said details were not being disclosed because the investigation was still under way.
