Wasilla’s five seniors help Warriors girls cap undefeated regular season

WASILLA — Wasilla’s five seniors on its girls’ basketball squad have spent the entire 2012-13 season as the five players in the Warriors’ starting lineup. Saturday, as the Wasilla basketball programs celebrated their Senior Night, it was appropriate that those five seniors finished as the only five players in Wasilla’s scorebook.

Wasilla’s starting senior five capped an undefeated regular season with a 58-37 win over the Lathrop Malemutes.

A pair of Wasilla seniors posted double-doubles for the Warriors. Kyla Dinkel finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Alysha Devine had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Savanna Burke added 13 points, while Jenna Ford and Alexis Imoe chipped in seven each.

Wasilla, the two-time defending state champion, is now a combined 48-1 during the last two seasons.

Tremon Washington hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give Lathrop a 54-53 boys’ basketball win over Wasilla Saturday.

After Wasilla missed a free throw with 3.2 seconds left, Washington grabbed the rebound, sprinted down the floor and threw up the long game-winning three.

Washington’s shot was one of two three-pointers Lathrop hit during the final 5.8 seconds.

Kyle Carson hit a three with less than six seconds to cut Wasilla’s lead to 52-51.

The three-pointers were part of a 20-13 fourth-quarter run for the Malemutes. Wasilla entered the final quarter with a 40-34 lead.

Dane Kuiper led the Warriors with 26 points and 17 rebounds in the loss. Cash McGregor added 12 points and eight rebounds. Cameron Brown chipped in nine.
