A large hole and small amount of waste water was all that was left Monday evening following a construction accident that spilled thousands of gallons of low-strength waste water. The accident happened at the construction site of the new Alaska Native medical facility at the intersection of Knik-Goose Bay Road and the Palmer-Wasilla Highway. At about 4:30 p.m., a crew from Neeser Construction was backfilling a newly installed sewer tap when the tap broke. The pressurized line spilled an estimated 10,000 gallons of waste water over the course of about two hours while crews tied the broken line into a nearby city pipe, seen here. Wasilla Public Works Director Archie Giddings said the spilled waste water was contained to the property. Warren Woolley, waste water manager for the state Department of Environmental Conservation, said his office was alerted to the accident and no fines are anticipated.
