City of Palmer urges drivers to use caution when traveling on Arctic Avenue between Alaska Street to Bonanza.
Palmer Public Safety Dispatch received a call at 4:26 a.m. today about a water leak at the intersection of W. Beaver and N. Alaska Streets. Public Works Department crews arrive at 4:45 a.m. and found that a water main had broken where the new steel water main on Alaska Street was tied to the older cast iron water line several yards west of Alaska on Beaver Street.
The water from the main traveled south on Alaska Street, and west onto Arctic Avenue, pooling near Bonanza Street. Although the storm drain has been able to absorb much of the water, ice has formed making Arctic Avenue from Alaska Street to Bonanza hazardous and icy, according to a press release from the city of Palmer.
The area has been sanded, but residents are urged to be very extra cautious driving in this area.
Five residences on the 100 block of W. Beaver also have extremely diminished water flow as a result, according to the press release.
