Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Wayne Edward Lewis, 31, died April 7, 2002, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2002, at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., in Wasilla, with Pastor Stan Tucker of Pilgrims Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Wasilla Aurora Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Cole, Jonathan Cole, Larry Shearin, Josh Robles, Joey Bowlin, Jim Weeks and Dave Balthazore.
Mr. Lewis was born Aug. 25, 1970, in Johnson City, Tenn. He came to Alaska in 1982, at 12 years of age. He had been employed as a store clerk.
His hobbies and special interests were camping, drawing, fishing, the outdoors, cookouts and family gatherings.
His family wrote, "Wayne's ability to make people smile and laugh will always be remembered. He will be missed a lot by everyone who knew him and loved him."
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Hyndman.
Surviving are his mother, Linda Cole; sister, Renee Cole; brothers, Robert Cole and Jonathan Cole; step-children, Josh Robles, Joey Bowlin, Jeana Bowlin and Janelle Bowlin; grandmother, Argie Lewis; aunt, Janice Weeks; uncle, Clarence Weeks; cousins, Melissa Lemley, Nicole Baybado, Eric Dayton and Tim Dayton James Weeks; niece, Kaylee; nephew, Ryan; second cousins, Anthony Lemley, Tabetha Lemly, Jessica Baybado, Victoria Baybado, Chris Weeks, Caz Weeks, Thomas Dayton and Ashley Dayton; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Cole.
