We celebrate the 4th for all the wrong reasons

We celebrate July 4 for all the wrong reasons.

Rarely do you hear anyone talking about the Declaration of Independence in association with the 4th. Or, the Great American Revolution, for that matter. Instead, for all too many, the 4th is just another holiday, a day off, a chance to watch sports on the telly, and, maybe, if the weather is good, to have a barbeque. We fly flags, thank the military, even though the 4th has nothing to do with the military. It has to do with an act of treason against the British Crown.

For our forefathers, signing the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, was a declaration of war with the greatest military power on the earth at the time. War with Great Britain was not taken lightly, because the Americans of the time were all British citizens. Rebellion against the crown was a death sentence. The signers of the Declaration of Independence literally put their lives and their fortunes on the line for their beliefs and their intent to break away from Mother England.

The Great American Revolution was one of the greatest achievements of man, as it birthed a nation with no equal in history growing from the original 13 Colonies to a nation of 50 states and several territories. A nation that does not use its military to conquer.

The Declaration of Independence recognized for the first time that our rights are granted by a creator, inalienable and pre-existing, and that all had the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness independent of any earthly power. That our rights, lives and liberty were not the grant of a benign king or despot. In so doing, the Declaration recognized that we were not beneath any other by virtue of birthright or station. The Declaration of Independence was a denial of the basis of the aristocracy of Europe, whose standing was above that of the common man,

The Declaration of Independence gave rise to the Constitution, which recognizes that all Americans are equal under the law, but none are equal to each other in any other manner, except in that context. God made us imperfect.

We are all different.

There is no such thing as equality, except under the law, and in the eyes of God.

The Declaration of Independence sets forth the grievances with England. The list demonstrates the egregious treatment of the colonies by the crown. The ills of the colonies were largely due to a distant government continually interfering with the governance of the colonial governments of the 13 colonies.

Today, that list would not be so much about governance as the breakdown of society through interference by government at every level, including the breakdown of the separation of powers of our three branches.

The courts legislate from the bench usurping the Legislative branch’s authority, the Executive violates the authority of the Judicial and Legislative branches through executive orders to legislate and to ignore law.

There are checks and balances that are designed to prevent a despot in the Executive, or a runaway judiciary, and elections to insure the Legislative acts in the interests of the people. And, then, there is the Second Amendment, if all else fails.

The Declaration of Independence was a unique document in the manner in which it declared the separation from England. Further, the signers appealed to divine providence for guidance and success. Something missing in much of today’s governance.

Evidently, God is no longer welcome in our institutions.

Could the Declaration of Independence be written today?

No.

Too many lawyers, none have the courage, and PC would certainly reduce the grievances against the crown to unrecognizable sniveling and whining about feelings being hurt.

All of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were religious men with a firm belief in God.

Would there be another Great American Revolution?

No, there is only the original.

However, the need for a revolution to restore the principles underlying the Declaration of Independence and the supremacy of the Constitution seems to be growing more likely than not.

We have forgotten the threat of Marxism, and now it permeates our educational institutions and our governments. The bar to the success of that failed ideology is our Constitution.

We are the only people in the world with the right to take up arms against a tyrannical government. Which, is the reason why the Left works so hard to end the Second Amendment.

Do not acquiesce to tyranny, speak out, and, when it becomes necessary, end it.

Make the Marxist left run for Canada, as did the Tories loyal to the king.

The 4th is a celebration of the birth of a country born of righteous treason against tyranny.
