A significant milestone in the recent growth of the Valley community will be marked on Thursday, as the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman cuts the ribbon on its new production facility. We are pleased to invite the community to our grand-opening ceremony from 4-7 p.m. It is a culmination of a year's worth of planning, and we look forward to showing it off to the public on Thursday afternoon.
The 10,000-square-foot facility on East Mayflower Court, just off the Palmer-Wasilla Highway, houses a new printing press capable of putting out each edition of the Frontiersman and its supplementary products. It is the only commercial Web press in the Valley, so local printing needs formerly sent to out-of-town contractors can now stay in the community.
The new facility has also created new jobs. In preparation for getting up and running, five full-time and five part-time positions have been added in recent months. In many ways, this visible expansion is a manifestation of the community's support for its hometown newspaper, as well as our commitment to being the community's primary source of news and information.
Since its inception in September 1947, the Frontiersman has grown with the Valley. Major milestones in recent years have been the addition of a Sunday paper in August 2002 and of home delivery in April 2003. We are excited about this latest change in how we serve our readers and invite everyone to visit on Thursday during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. There will be demonstrations of what we do, and door prizes and refreshments will be part of the event, which is being held in conjunction with the periodic Business After Hours function of the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce. Mayors of Wasilla, Palmer and Houston will be in attendance, along with Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman staff.
Please join us in celebrating this event in the evolution of your hometown newspaper.
