Week includes loss, forfiet and rain out for legion team

WASILLA — It was supposed to be a busy week for the Alaska Road Warriors.

The local American Legion squad was scheduled to take the field four times this week. But as of today, the Warriors had only taken the field once.

After suffering a 12-2 loss to Chugiak on Monday, Alaska’s games on Tuesday and Thursday were called off. The Road Warriors received a forfeit victory on Tuesday after their opponent, Dimond, was not able to scrape together enough players.

A home contest against Eagzle River on Thursday was rained out and will be rescheduled for later this month, Alaska head coach Steve Mossburgh said.

“We’ve got to get it in,” Mossburgh said. “It’s a league game.”

Alaska is 10-8 overall and 8-5 in league games, according to the Alaska American Legion league’s Web site.

Chugiak leads the league with a 13-1 record, and the Mustangs are well ahead of a glut of teams locked in the middle of the pack with eight wins.

South (8-4), Fairbanks (8-4), Alaska (8-5), Dimond (8-6) and Kenai (8-6) each have eight wins.

Alaska is slated to host West Anchorage today at 6:30 p.m. at McManus Field in Wasilla. The Road Warriors travel to Kenai on Sunday to face the Twins in a doubleheader at Corel Seymour Park.

Alaska concludes the regular season with home games against South (Tuesday), Service (Thursday) and West (Saturday) next week.
