PALMER — MoonDog Media is hosting a weekly open mic event at Klondike Mike’s.
The Open Stage is an opportunity for local artists across genres to practice their craft and get their names out there. MoonDog Media owner Mike Dillon said they also follow up with artists that are interested in general booking assistance.
“At MoonDog Media, we try our best to get them on stages,” Dillon said.
A variety of performers have appeared at The Open Stage since its inception in 2020. Dillon said that local comedian Sabrina Speers has been involved in this growing venue since the beginning. Speers has since taken an active role in community outreach and acted as the event emcee on numerous occasions on top of being a regular performer at the venue.
“It’s been going great,” Dillon said. “The artists are absolutely loving it.”
Dillon said this platform has been an effective stepping stone for several budding artists across the Mat-Su Valley. He said that local musician Levi Rapp was happy to get paid for his first official performance thanks to the venue.
“It’s a growth platform for artists really,” Dillon said.
Dillon said his favorite part of hosting The Open Stage is seeing first time performers get their first applause
“They light up,” Dillon said.
When it comes to variety, Dillon said it’s the more the merrier. He said their stage is open to all types of performers, and they encourage anyone looking to get in front of a live audience for the first time to participate.
“Sign up and we’ll get you on stage,” Dillon said.
The Open Stage starts at 7 p.m. every Tuesday. Klondike Mike’s is located at 820 South Colony Way in downtown Palmer.
