The Alaska State Fair recently announced its first confirmed 2025 concert series performance.
Weird Al Yankovic is set to perform at the Borealis Theatre Sunday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m.
Alaska State Fair CEO Jeff Curtis said that it’s great to share the news about their first confirmed concert for the 2025 season.
“It just adds to the excitement,” Curtis said.
Weird Al is a music icon known for his humorous parodies of popular songs and being the top selling comedy recording artist of all time. Some of his notable classics include “Eat It,” “Another One Rides the Bus,” “Like a Surgeon,” “I Love Rocky Road,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “Amish Paradise,” “White & Nerdy” and “Word Crimes.” He also has released numerous original songs over the years.
Weird Al has received numerous awards for his work such as five Grammys, and numerous and Platinum selling albums. He’s also appeared on several film and television projects over the years. He even released a New York Times bestselling children’s book, “When I Grow Up.”
Weird Al’s ASF concert coincides with his 2025 national tour "Bigger and Weirder." Curtis noted that this will be the performance from that tour that takes place at a state fair.
“I think that says a lot for us,” Curtis said.
Curtis said that it’s thrilling to have another big name artist expressed interest in performing at the Fair.
“We're fortunate to have him,” Curtis said.
Curtis said the Fair is a unique and scenic venue which has built up a reputation that draws talent from across the music industry, and the overall interest seems to keep growing as notable names such as Ludacris (who sold out multiple shows during the 2024 season) bring further attention to the Last Frontier. He said that having high end musical entertainment is a great benefit for the Fair and the state as a whole. He noted that their 2024 concert series sales were the highest they've ever had which in turn, played a role in helping them reach an all time record in general admission sales.
“It's good for Alaska when these artists come up here,” Curtis said. “It's very important, especially here. I've grown to appreciate that Alaskans love live music.”
Those interested in purchasing concert tickets can buy concert-only tickets or tickets that include Fair admission. Tickets that include Fair admission come at a discounted price, only work for the day of the concert, and they must be purchased by Aug. 14.
