Welcome to circuit training JB

Circuit training

Gather a handful of exercises that are harder than they seem and separate them all by a lap around the track, and you’ll have how I spent about an hour each of the last two mornings.

Welcome to circuit training, JB.

For those of you who have not taken the dive into this form of physical phenomenon, circuit training brings together a group of exercises to create a combination of both cardio and strength training.

It’s designed to get your heart rate up and get the body sweating.

All of the exercises in my circuit are relatively simple in theory. There are dead lifts, curl squats, push-ups, shoulder presses, lunges and this crazy kicking motion that’s supposed to strengthen the butt muscles.

All of the strength training involves fairly light weight. It’s not like you’re trying to dead lift a tree trunk or anything.

High number of reps, low weight. Mix those laps around the track, and it’s amazing how you can quickly begin to feel the burn.

I can certainly see the logic behind this form of exercise, and also can see how it could help improve both my strength and endurance.

I also like it because you don’t need thousands of dollars worth of gym equipment to get the job done.

With a couple of light dumbbells and a training ball, and you can do pretty much every exercise on my circuit. This is stuff I could do at home. I can’t exactly take laps around the living room, but I am sure I could figure something out.

Variety is another challenge about exercise. Nobody wants to spend six days a week, two hours a day pounding the treads on a treadmill. It’s nice to mix it up. And circuit training certainly helps you there.
