We are all hearing a lot of bad news about the Affordable Care Act in Alaska and elsewhere for various reasons; I won’t get into here. I would like to offer a little good news.
Actually, it’s fantastic news! As a Certified Application Counselor for the ACA at Mat-Su Health Services in Wasilla, I had the pleasure of helping a single woman in her 50s who is not eligible for insurance through her employer.
Even though she projected her 2014 annual income at about $31,000, she still qualified for large tax subsidies and cost sharing through the ACA. She ended up enrolling in a Moda Health plan where she will have $0 monthly premiums, a $750 deductible, and maximum out-of-pocket costs of only $1,250 a year. That’s huge. She couldn’t have been more thrilled. She kept asking, “Is Moda a real company? Is this real?”
Yes, it is very real. And it’s awesome.
I would love to help more folks like her find affordable health insurance through the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace. I am currently taking appointments at my Mat-Su Health Services office on Spruce Ave. Give me a call at 352-3225.
There is also an opportunity for application assistance at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center from 6 to 8 p.m., Dec. 19. There will be at least four certified assisters (including Enroll Alaska agents) on hand to help folks get started or to at least find out what they’re eligible for.
We’re all in this together.
