Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Wesley Wade Whitstine, 19, died Oct. 8, 2003, in Big Lake.
A viewing and visitation will be held today at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Avenue in Wasilla, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Lazy Mountain Bible Church in Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Crowley, Rodney Whitstine, Eddie Hoager, Kevin Licht, R.C. Cook, Oleg Kirillov, Jacob Godwin and Scott Zimmerman.
Mr. Whitstine was a great brother to his siblings. He loved sports, spending time with his friends, writing lyrics and poetry.
His family wrote, "Wesley's life was filled with many adventures and left us with many happy memories. He was proud of the many accomplishments in his life such as roller blading in 35 states, snowboarding, basketball, biking and climbing the Butte. He truly loved the outdoors and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He had a compassionate heart for all creatures and people. His pride was his Beemer. He wrote and produced his own HipHop music CD."
Mr. Whitstine is survived by his parents Helena and Thomas Whitstine of Palmer; brothers Steven and Rodney of Palmer; sisters Amy and her son Oden of Sutton, and Stacey of Palmer; Thomas Lee Whitstine and family of Wasilla and Jeffery Whitstine and family of Palmer; Maranda Leonard and family of Wasilla; and many special friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Whitstine Memorial Fund, Advancial Federal Credit Union, 700 G Street, Suite 199, Anchorage AK 99501.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
