To the editor:
Today when I came out of Carr’s in Palmer, I saw that my rear bumper had been damaged. Not just a small scrape, but a huge chunk/splintering across the back of my car. My vehicle — a very nice, well-maintained Toyota Camry — is paid for by my hard work. Now someone has chosen to damage my vehicle and it is clear that they care nothing for the damage they caused.
Could it be one of the many drivers in the Valley without a driver’s license or insurance? Could it be a driver with too many previous accidents on his or her record? Were you driving under the influence again? Who knows?
To the person who damaged my vehicle, shame on you and your poor decisions.
What happened to the days when someone would leave a note on the windshield apologizing for hitting you? What happened to someone sticking around and waiting for the owner of the damaged vehicle to return?
Every week I hear stories just like mine from friends and acquaintances throughout the Valley. It’s sad, so sad. It just another instance where we are reminded that people care for no one but themselves, and destruction of someone else’s property is no big deal.
How do I pay for my repairs? Of course, I have insurance, that isn’t the issue. Why should I have to drive around with damage to my vehicle due to someone else’s negligence? Where has taking responsibility for what you do gone to?
