What has happened to our city?

To the editor:

Whatever happened to that REDDI (report every dangerous driver immediately) investigation of Mayor Rupright? What’s the secret? Why have our wastewater and sewage lagoons not been addressed? Department of Environmental Conservation says our wastewater flowing out of the city’s lagoons has nowhere to go and is simply seeping into the ground untreated.

Why do we have a revolving door in the police chief position? I, for one of many, do not support secret hiring and firing of police chiefs or any other political move to avoid scrutiny of a public official. Whatever happened to Diane Keller’s inspired Parks and Recreation Plan? Why is our city competing with privately owned retail space with the purchase of Meta Rose? So many questions, and I could go on.

There have been many initiatives planned and were ready for implementation in the past administrations, but that all stopped three years ago.

We need solutions for our future. Our health, safety and growth are at stake. Wasilla needs a new mayor. We need another leader, one who listens and acts, not a talker like the current mayor.

Taffina Katkus has served on the city council, planning groups, is a farmer, mother of six, a local business owner for 30 years, supports our Second Amendment rights, is Gen. Katkus’ sister-in-law, has been married for 27 years to the same man and is an outspoken supporter of economic development. She initiated a borough shooting range petition.

She believes in the need for a long-range shooting facility for all handguns and long-distance rifles with a non-government sporting group like the Mat-Su Valley Sportsmen to manage the facility. Watch for the petition and sign it.

Support your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms!

I have known Taffina for many years and am so thankful that we have a strong leader like her sitting on the city council. I ask you to join me in supporting Katkus for mayor on Oct. 4.
