Not withstanding the appreciation I have for Howard Delo’s columns on outdoor life in the Valley (to include a letter I wrote commending his reporting recently published in the letters section of this newspaper), his column in the Friday Frontiersman (“Gun owners should be very concerned”) was really beyond the pale.
I’m not sure what Howard was smoking when he wrote this column, but to suggest American citizens would ever allow the government to take away our sacred right to bear arms or own firearms, en masse, is absurd. This irrational drivel, in tandem with abundant negative campaigning by candidates vying for the Republican nomination, is exactly the type of rhetoric that is driving many Republican and independent voters to consider voting the liberal ticket.
Howard either needs to focus on those great outdoors articles his readers really appreciate or turn in his keyboard and spend more time on the river.
