To the editor:
Noel Woods is a candidate for his second term as Mat-Su Borough assemblyman in District 2.
Do you know Noel is a Pioneer Alaskan of more than 65 years? He and his wife Jean are parents of four children, three college graduates (two National Merit Scholars) who are all residents of Alaska. His wife is a former school teacher.
In 1955, Noel joined the Palmer Volunteer Department serving as fire chief from 1961 through 1966. His reputation as a volunteer became well known and was appointed to boards and commissions, from road service areas to trails and subdivision committees. He and his family farmed for 20 years and were members of the Potato Growers Association, a unique co-op that was adopted by the Hawaiian Pineapple Growers. And, in 1965, he was named “Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year.”
His contribution as chair of the Port Commission for seven of his eight-year membership helped keep Port MacKenzie on track, bringing it to its current status as one of Alaska’s greatest economic engines.
As a general contractor through the 1970’s (Woods & Woods), the product of his skills are still noticeable throughout the region. He served as president of the Mat-Su Builders Association from 1976 to 1979 and I could go on, but suffice it to say, when Noel Woods started a project, he made certain it was completed, and when he joined a club or association, it was for a lifetime, such as founder and past president of what is now known as the Alaska Outdoor Council, Matanuska Valley Sportsmen, Pioneers of Alaska, National Rifle Association, Palmer Senior Center and serving as a trustee of his church.
Please use your vote wisely on Tuesday, Oct. 1, and help re-elect Noel Woods as your assemblyman for District 2.
