To the editor:
Where there are farms, there is food. Our modern-day world depends on this system. Men and women toil in the dirt, finding a livelihood and a way of life in its toil. In return, they provide us with the life-giving food that feeds generations. My parents farmed here in the Mat-Su and now I have the privilege to do the same.
Kenley’s Alaskan Vegetables and Flowers has been in operation since 1994. I couldn’t be happier to have raised my children in these fields, teaching them valuable life lessons and providing harvest for my family, friends and community.
And now, we want to share our unique way of life with you.
The Mat-Su Chapter of the Alaska Farm Bureau will be hosting our fifth annual Farm Tour in the Mat-Su Valley. Farms featured this year include VanderWeele Farms, Rempel Family Farm, Little Pitchfork Ranch, Pyrah’s Pioneer Peak Farm and Havemeister Dairy.
As the secretary of the Mat-Su Chapter of the Alaska Farm Bureau, I encourage you to participate in this tour Aug. 1. The cost is only $65, and includes an all Alaska Grown lunch and $50 worth of produce redeemable at farmer’s markets in Southcentral Alaska. To learn more check, out the Mat-Su Farm Bureau on Facebook or email akfarmtours@gmail.com. I hope I can share my farming community with you.
