White house blessing, move-in celebration is set for Monday

MAT-SU — Mat-Su Home Builders Association, in conjunction with the United Protestant Church Low Cost Housing Fund, teamed to build Jim White a house.

After months of continuous hard work and help from those who volunteered and donated to this project, the Jim White House is complete, and Jim and his family are ready to move in, according to Bob Pevan, 2011 president of the Mat-Su Home Builders Association.

Pevan has headed up the project for the past couple years in this role as well as with his own company, Tru Built Construction.

A blessing and move-in celebration for White and family is at noon, Monday at the family’s newly constructed home located off Knik-Goose Bay Road.

White lost his legs in 2008 to peripheral artery disease.

The family lived in a trailer that was more than 50 years old and could not afford to build a new home on their own.

The total estimated cost was approximately $100,000, and through the hard work of many in the Mat-Su Valley, the goal has been reached.

“We took on this project because we felt that it aligns with our vision to maintain high standards in the building industry, to support building contactors in efforts to rectify conditions of an unsatisfactory nature,” Pevan said. “The Mat-Su Home Builders Association was pleased to be involved in helping this family.”
