To the editor:
This seat for Mat-Su Borough Assembly that is upcoming to be filled is not about who is Democrat, Republican, Liberal or Green Party. It is for us, the people who live in District 1. It is not a political seat. For many of us, we perhaps look at it as political, as a choice of party, but it is not. I hear there is a letter going around through email slamming one of the running candidates. Stop it, whoever is doing it!
This is not a race for a rosy seat at the assembly table. This is a placement for an individual who is willing to take the people’s concerns to the bench to be heard. This is a position that involves countless hours, 24/7 dedication, meetings to attend, many miles of travel in rain, ice and snow on roads and highways most of us feel are unsafe at times. This job also includes dealing with complainers, whiners and, sometimes, hate mongers.
It’s a job that means your family will give up time with you so you can serve as the voice of our District 1. Many family meals missed, time with loved ones, birthday parties, anniversaries, holidays and yes, the all time spent high hunting and on fishing and camping trips.
Think about how much time you feel you don’t have just in your own daily life to get your own daily chores done. Now think again who is going to give up their life of personal time to be our voice? We need to make the right choice, not try to elect someone for a political seat, but someone who has the time for us!
