WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Mark Begich and his wife, Deborah Bonito, attended the Veterans’ Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

After the official ceremony, Sen. Begich and Deborah placed a wreath at the gravesite of Alaskan ET1 Ronald John Hemenway who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon while working in the office of the Chief of Navy Operations.

A Battlefield Cross was placed at Wasilla High School in his honor on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people on U.S. soil.

Hemenway was born in Cordova, graduated from Wasilla High School and attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Hemenway’s full biography can be found on Sen. Begich’s “Alaska Heroes Hub” at tinyurl.com/dxj9s2p.

Alaskans are invited to add information to the website telling what the service of a family member, friend or community member means to them.
