JUNEAU — The Juneau Crimson Bears avenged an opening round loss to the Wasilla girls in the 4A state basketball tournament last year by decisively beating the Warriors 41-27 Monday in the Capital City Classic. Jenna Johnson from Wasilla lead all scorers with 10 points, while Brittany Fenumiai lead Juneau with 9.
In action Tuesday night the Warriors were beaten by Kilsyth, a traveling team from Australia, 41-33 in Wasilla’s last game of the Capital City Classic. Johnson, who was named to the all-tournament team, lead the Warriors with 20 points.
Boys rebound
HONOLULU, Hawaii — Chris Edwards scored 17 points to lead the Wasilla High School boys basketball team to a 69-49 victory over Castle in the consolation championship of the Merv Lopes Holiday Classic on Tuesday. Adrese Lavern scored 15, while Cody Pfeifer contributed 10 in the victory. Wasilla next plays Wednesday against Palmer at 8:15 at the Palmer High gym.
