The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD) announced last week that Brian Cook, Wasilla High School’s Building Pathway teacher has been named as Alaska’s 2024 CTE Teacher of the year.
Each year the Alaska Association for Career and Technical Education Board of Directors recognizes the outstanding work of the CTE professionals in Alaska through the annual award nomination process.
"Brian’s passion for education, his leadership, his industry connections, his hands-on training opportunities, and his remarkable connection with students make him an amazing choice for Alaska’s 2024 CTE Teacher of the Year!" said Trish Zugg, CTE Program Administrator for the District.
“Through programs that he runs like construction trades, cabinetry, and geometry and construction. His hands-on approach engages students and builds lifelong skills,” said MSBSD Superintendent Dr. Randy Trani during his Superintendent Updates at the October 16 school board meeting. “As a key member of the Wasilla High School Foundation team, Brian consistently takes on leadership roles, demonstrating his dedication to both students’ and staff success.”
Wasilla High School is the only National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) Leadership school in the state of Alaska, offering certification programs in Starrett, Kubota Tech, Snap-on, Greenlee, and Tormach.
“He has been instrumental in building the NC3 Certification center at Wasilla High School. He significantly expanded opportunities for students in career and technical education,” said Dr. Trani.
