Nice to see that improvements in the Post Office are on the way. But why not go further than just a postmaster and an employee or two? Why can’t postal customers take numbers like the DMV and have seating as well?
Of course, the lobby isn’t very big, But how about even a few seats for the handicapped and elderly? Right now there are many folks who simply cannot go to the P.O. due to physical limitations. Seems to me postal access should be a federal human right for everyone. In my mother’s declining years, I went to the P.O. for her because she was unable to stand for periods of time. There must be many more like her who don’t have a family member nearby to help.
I have written to postmasters and lawmakers about this many times for the past 12 years and never even received an acknowledgement. How hard can this be? And where is the “Americans with Disabilities Act” that requires private businesses to build ramps and have large bathrooms at enormous expense? Why doesn’t the ADA apply to federal facilities as basic as the local post office?
