To the editor:
Someone asked me today what my qualifications are for running as a candidate for election to the Mat-Su Borough Assembly in District 2. I believe I am no more qualified than most residents. The reason I’m running is I was asked to do so by my neighbors and friends and encouraged by others when I asked their opinions.
The best leaders listen to what others say, collect information and make reasonable decisions based on those two things. That is what I want to do as a member of the borough assembly. I’m a good communicator and I highly enjoy working with others and building healthy friendships and strong working relationships.
I have college degrees and years of experience working with others, managing budgets and this and that. But the willingness to step forward and serve is what matters most in this case.
The borough assembly is nonpartisan and the matters dealt with are issues that really impact local folks, not some lofty ideals. I’m a husband, a parent, a co-owner of a local small business in Palmer, a landowner and a lay leader in church ministry with 19 years of professional experience. Our kids attend public schools in Palmer and we are highly involved and personally invested here.
I honestly believe Palmer and the Mat-Su should be the friendliest place on earth where it is normal to wave and smile to one another. I believe I can make reasonable and responsible choices as your representative from District 2 and I would appreciate your vote on Oct. 1.
