Why would any state legislator oppose SJR9?

To the editor:

It is beyond me why any senator or representative would oppose the constitutional amendment Senate Joint Resolution 9/House Joint Resolution 1, which removes the Blaine-like language from our state constitution. This amendment merely removes unjust restrictions on the rights of our legislators to consider the full gamut of options when considering educational reform. It doesn’t propose any solution; it just grants them the freedom, which by rights they should have. Who would have thought that some legislators are in favor of restricting the exercise of their office unnecessarily?
