Wichita Falls takes two from Avs

WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS — Wichita Falls handed Alaska its fifth straight defeat with a 6-3 win over the Avs Saturday night in Wichita Falls.

The win was the Wildcats’ second in two nights and fourth in eight days over the struggling Avalanche, who currently hold a five-point edge over Texas for the North American Hockey League’s fourth and final South Division playoff spot.

Kent Detlefsen, Kyle Pichler and Tommy English each scored for the Avs Saturday.

Nathan Corey stopped 37 of 43 shots for Alaska.

On Friday, the first place Wildcats scored a pair of unanswered goals in the third period to claim a 5-3 win over the Avs.

Alaska scored all three of its goals Friday in the third period.

After the Wildcats took the 2-0 lead in the first, Alaska defenseman Kent Detlefsen scored a pair of power-play goals within a 1 minute and 39 second span early in the second period.

Dustin Skinner added a goal midway through the second, with an assist from Detlefsen.

Detlefsen now has a team-high 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists).

Kyle Politz and Dylan Jones also registered assists in the loss. Politz made his debut with the Avalanche. He was acquired with forward Brooks Dezallar in a trade with North Iowa.

Dusan Sidor stopped 43 shots in the Alaska goal in the loss.

Houston High grad scores in debut

BISMARCK, N.D. — Larry Kincaid scored midway through the third period to help his new squad, the North Iowa Outlaws, post a 4-2 win over the Bismarck Bobcats in Bismarck, N.D., on Friday.

Kincaid, a graduate of Houston High School, scored his first goal in an Outlaw uniform at the 7:12 mark of the third period of his debut with North Iowa.

Last week, Kincaid and defenseman Kevin Anger were traded from the Alaska Avalanche to North Iowa for forwards Brooks Drezellar and Kyle Politz.
