Wild eliminate Avs; Alaska forced out of playoffs with 6-3 loss to Wenatchee

WENATCHEE, Wash. — Alaska’s season has come to an end.

The Wenatchee Wild used four third-period goals to bury the Alaska Avalanche with a 6-3 playoff series-clinching victory at the Toyota Center in Wenatchee, Wash., on Saturday.

Wenatchee now moves on to the second round of the North American Hockey League playoffs and will face the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, who swept the Kenai River Brown Bears in the first round.

Alaska led twice in the game. Logan Rounds scored on the power play four minutes into the second to give the Avs the 2-1 advantage, and Tyler Currier scored with the man-advantage midway through the second to give Alaska the 3-2 lead.

But the third period was all Wenatchee.

Wenatchee tied the game at the 2:37 mark of the third and took the lead four minutes later.

Wenatchee padded the advantage with a power-play goal with 2:47 left, and iced the win with an empty-netter with seven seconds to play.
