Wild pursuit ends in arrest

WASILLA — A long police chase on the north end of town ended with no one hurt and one man in jail Saturday.

According to a press release from Alaska State Troopers, a gray Subaru WRX was spotted just after midnight “traveling at a high rate of speed on Crusey Street in the middle turn lane with no headlights on.”

Troopers say they later identified the driver as Timothy S. Harris, 20, of Wasilla.

Officers tried to stop the Subaru, but it wouldn’t stop, instead blowing through a red light at Crusey and Bogard Road.

The Subaru then tore speeding down Bogard Road, at one point driving in the wrong lane. At Bogard and Wasilla-Fishhook Road, troopers report the Subaru ran a second red light and made the turn to head north.

At Wasilla-Fishhook and Peck Drive, Harris lost control and the Subaru and “spun multiple times,” the release says.

Though this would be where a lot of police chases end, Harris, troopers allege, wasn’t done. Troopers say he regained control of the Subaru and continued on, speeding up Wasilla-Fishhook.

“Harris at times drove into the wrong lane of travel and intentionally caused multiple dust clouds to obscure pursuing troopers’ view,” according to the press release.

At Wasilla-Fishhook and Seldon Road, upon “seeing multiple troopers in the area,” Harris gave up the chase and was arrested “without further incident.”

Harris was charged with failure to stop for a police officer, reckless driving and two counts of reckless endangerment.

He was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $6,000 bail and ordered to find a third party to watch over him before he can be released. Jail records Monday afternoon showed he was still incarcerated.
