Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident William A. McKillican, 85, died of colon cancer at his home Jan. 3, 2003. At his request there will be no memorial service.
Mr. McKillican was born June 4, 1917, in St. Elmo, Ontario, Canada.
He attended schools in Maxville and Toronto, Canada, and had been a member of the Royal Canadian Navy stationed on the H.M.C.S. Ontario during World War II.
Mr. McKillican became a resident of Alaska in September of 1967, moving to Kodiak. He and his family moved to Palmer in June 1969.
He was employed as an electrician until his retirement in 1982.
His family said, "He was known by friends and family for his story telling, and always had a joke to go with every story. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him."
Mr. McKillican is survived by his wife Mary E. McKillican of Palmer; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and William Bielar of Palmer; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and William Charles Hafferman of Tannersville, Penn.; grandchildren and their spouses, Brooke and Joshua McClelland of Anchorage, Kristi and Kalon Koenen of Wasilla, Jake Hafferman of Tannersville, Penn. and Erin Hafferman of Tannersville, Penn. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Munroe of Canada; brothers, Robert E. McKillican and Donald C. McKillican of Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home in Wasilla.
