WILLIAM B. FOSTER

William Burton Foster, 71, of Palmer, died at his home from a long battle with cancer, on Sept. 6, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, at the Valley Funeral Home Chapel. His ashes will be scattered over his homestead land.

Mr. Foster was born April 16, 1933, in Lowell, Mich. He attended Lowell Public Schools, where he completed high school.

He joined and served in both the Navy, from 1950 to 1954, and then the Air Force, from 1955 to 1965.

In 1967, he moved to Alaska and made Palmer his home. While in Alaska, Mr. Foster worked in a variety of fields, including: the de-icer unit of Elmendorf Air Force Base, the fire and surveying crews for the Bureau of Land Management, as a security guard at the state fairgrounds for two years and in the recap shop of the Denali Tire Store, from which he retired in 1984.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and involving himself in pool- and dart-playing teams.

Mr. Foster's sister, Lorna Bigelow of Irons, Mich.; several nieces and nephews and his former wife and best friend, Beverly Snow of Palmer, survive him.

Memorial donations in his honor may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1057 West Fireweed Lane, Suite 204, Anchorage, AK 99503.
