Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

William A. Morris, 62, died Aug. 17, 2002, in Palmer at the home of his friend, Cathy Smith, after a seven-year battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at Valley Funeral Home in Wasilla.
Mr. Morris was born in North Adams, Mass., on Jan. 29, 1940. He came to Alaska Oct. 10, 1973, and lived on Soapstone Road in Palmer.
Mr. Morris had been employed as a school bus driver and had worked as a delivery driver for the Anchorage Daily News. He retired in 1990.
He enjoyed gardening and tinkering around the house and he enjoyed watching the Mariners baseball games.
His friend Cathy remembers, "Bill was always willing to help his friends in any way he could. His friends in Alaska were like family to him."
Mr. Morris is survived by three sons in North Adams, Mass., Billy, Randy and Lonnie Morris; step-children Brett Beis and Nicole Sherwood, and special friends Jason Harder, Tim Bauman and Curt and Casey Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Aurora Morris, and his son Curtis.

Interment will be at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home.
