WILLIAM "BILL" B. MASON

William "Bill" B. Mason, 82, a Coulee City, Wash., resident, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at his home in Coulee City, Wash. A memorial service will be held on June 30, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Coulee City, Wash., with Rick Bayless officiating. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory in Moses Lake, Wash.

Mr. Mason was born March 12, 1919, in Alamosa, Colo., son of the late Edward and Mayme (Day) Mason. He joined the National Guard in 1939, serving for one year. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in New Guinea.

Following his honorable discharge in 1945, he moved to Alaska, where he lived for 35 years. Mr. Mason worked for the Alaska Railroad from 1945 until his retirement in 1975. He met Phyllis Sanders Clark in Moose Pass, and they were married on July 3, 1953 in Seward.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, trap shooting and snow skiing. His skills as a hunter provided much wild game for the family. They continued to live in Alaska until 1979, when they moved to Chehalis, Wash.

In 1997, the Masons moved to Coulee City, Wash., where they have lived since. Mr. Mason was a lifetime member of the Palmer Elks Lodge No. 1842.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Mason, of Coulee City, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Lauri Clark of Centralia, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Paul Evans, of Coulee City, Wash.; sister, Pat Brenniman, of Fort Collins, Colo.; granddaughter, Shonna Clark, of Centralia, Wash.; and grandsons, Ansen and Michael Evans, of Coulee City, Wash.
