WILLIAM "BILL" HUBBARD

Longtime Alaskan William Hubbard died Oct. 14 at Alaska Regional

Hospital after suffering a heart aneurysm. He was 74 years old.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Bible Fellowship in Big Lake at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.

Mr. Hubbard was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Pasadena, Calif. After graduating from Eagle Rock High School in California, he entered the service and served overseas during the occupation of Japan.

After returning to California, he met and married Beverlee Copeland, with whom he just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They moved to Washington while starting a family. Mr. Hubbard worked with Sears Roebuck and pastored a rural church. In 1967 they were transferred to Anchorage.

Mr. Hubbard left Sears in 1974 to work in construction as a carpenter.

He worked on projects such as the Country Village Mall and Hanshew Junior High. He retired to Big Lake in 1986.

His wife wrote: "He was a very loving and special husband. He had a remendous sense of humor and loved to laugh. His favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 17:22 -- A merry heart does good, like a medicine. He read his Bible through every year for the last 17 years and he urged others to do the same. Most recently what he enjoyed was spending time with his grandchildren."

Mr. Hubbard was an active member of Christian Business Men Committee, Child Evangelism Fellowship and a board member of KSRM radio. He and his wife traveled extensively over the West doing volunteer work for Christian organizations. They spent many winters in Tucson working with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They worked locally at North Star Bible Camp and recently completed a youth pastor's apartment.

Mr. Hubbard is survived by his wife, Beverlee; sons, Tom of Sterling and Philip of Fairbanks; daughter, Mary Jena of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; sisters, Caroline Sautter of Gallop, N.M., and Martha Ford of Gig Harbor, Wash.
