Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

William E. Bassney, 90, died Sept. 21, 2002, at Colony Manor in Palmer.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 2 at St. Vibiana Catholic Church in Galeton, Pa. at 10 a.m. His ashes will be scattered in Corning, N.Y.
Mr. Bassney was born in White Plains, Pa., on Feb. 19, 1912. He moved to Wasilla in December 2000, and then to Palmer in 2001.
Mr. Bassney worked for Ingersol Rand in Painted Post, N.Y. until his retirement in 1973. He was co-founder of Painted Post Field & Stream. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed carving, painting, fly tying and cabinet making.
He is survived by his children, Joan Whitehead from Atlantic Mine, Mich., Mike Bassney from Lodi, Wis., Pete Bassney Sr. from Wasilla, and Cathie Paul from Galeton, Pa.; and by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bassney was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine and his grandson Bill Bassney.
