Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Willow resident William L. Hemmelgarn, 85, died of natural causes at his home, on July 8, 2005.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 17, at St. Philip Catholic Church in Trapper Creek, with Father Dustin Sitta officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in memory of Mr. Hemmelgarn.
Mr. Hemmelgarn was born Nov. 17, 1919, in St. Joseph, Ohio. He served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II and the Korean War.
Mr Hemmelgarn retired in Nashville, Tenn., from the McLean Trucking Co. before coming to Alaska in 1982.
Once here, he settled in the Willow area. He enjoyed fishing and photography.
He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Earline Hemmelgarn; sons, William Jr. and Paul Hemmelgarn; daughters, Bonnie, Kathy and Ann; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
