Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

William Lindsay Root, 75, passed away Jan. 18, 2014, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.
A funeral is planned at noon, Jan. 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Soldotna Chapel with a viewing at 11 a.m. at the church.
A memorial service is at 5 p.m., Jan. 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Colony Chapel in Wasilla.
“Bill” was born Jan. 10, 1939 in Santa Fe, N.M., to Lindsay Root and Karen (Wold) Root. He graduated from Santa Fe High School. He served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in the Alaskan-Canadian Mission.
After his mission, Bill returned to Fairbanks, where he met Nancy Kay Hall. They were married for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on Aug. 23, 1961. They were married 52 years and were the parents of 10 children.
Bill graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and earned a master’s of business administration from Brigham Young University. He was a certified public accountant/entrepreneur. The family moved often, living in Alaska, California, Idaho, New Mexico and Utah. They always returned to Alaska.
Bill held many church callings, including Branch President and Seminary Teacher. Together, Kay and Bill served two missions in the Family and Church History Mission in Salt Lake. Bill was an avid fisherman. He will be remembered for his dedication to the Lord, his love for his family and the great stories he told.
Surviving are his wife, Kay; children, Rochelle (Doug) Bushey, Bill Root Jr., Karen (Frank) Fager, David Root, Shere Holtz, Martie (Jared) Jarvis, Russell (Chris) Root, Richard (Carrie) Root, Deborah (Tyler) Fuelling and Julienne (Brandon) Pixton; his mother; two siblings; 35 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his father and one brother.

In lieu of flowers, a donation account has been set up for the William Root memorial at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union.
Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
