Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

William Richard Anderson, 39, of Palmer, died June 12, 2004, in Wasilla.
Mr. Anderson was born July 17, 1964, in Reidsville, N.C. He attended Reidsville High School, and received an undergraduate bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Elon College, and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School.
Mr. Anderson became an Alaska resident in November of 2003. He was employed from November 2003 toJune 2004 at the Office of Public Advocacy in Anchorage, and previously from June 1995 to November 2003 he held a private practice in Yanceyville, N.C.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Blanch, N.C., and the Kiwanis Club in Yanceyville.
He was an Eagle Scout, a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, and also a head crew chief of Fat Boy Cook Crew, International Association of Turtles.
His family said, "Richard was a kind man who will be missed by all those he touched. He enjoyed life, loved his work with the Boy Scouts of America, and was a wonderful father, husband and friend. He willingly left his home in North Carolina to begin a new future in Alaska with his wife and daughter. He loved what little he saw of this state and commented often about this peaceful land."
Services were held June 16 at 2 p.m. at Kehl's Palmer Mortuary in Palmer, with Rev. Jonathan Rockey officiating. An additional service will be held June 19 at 2 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church in Blanch, with Pastor Jaylynn Byassee officiating.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Jodie Anderson, and daughter, Shelby Anderson, of Palmer; mother, Lucille Anderson, of Reidsville, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Judi and Gene Matthews, of Russellville, Ala.; and sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ed Thomas, of Reidsville.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Richard Anderson Sr.
