PALMER — A 47-year-old Willow man died Thursday in his jail cell at the Palmer Correctional Center. Alaska State Troopers report Anthony Lee Willis apparently hanged himself in the cell at about 4:30 p.m.
Willis was pronounced dead by a facility physician, the AST reports, adding that no foul play is suspected.
According to court documents, Willis had an open case for two misdemeanors: 4th-degree assault and interfering with the report of domestic violence. He was convicted on similar charges in 1997, 1998 and 2000, as well as several traffic citations, including a felony DUI. A felony DUI charge results when a driver has had two prior DUI convictions and is facing a third.
