Now that spring is here and many people are swapping their snow machine for an ATV, snowshoes for hiking boots, and spending more time outside. It is also time for some to take stock of their health.
This Saturday, April 5, residents in Willow can take part in the “Thaw out and Thrive” Health Fair. This is a free community event, and everybody is welcome to attend.
Hosted by the nonprofit Alaska Health Fair, Inc., the health fair will feature affordable comprehensive blood tests, health education, and local health and wellness resources.
Some of the blood tests available include a Comprehensive (27 panels) blood chemistry screening, covering anemia, liver disease, clotting ability, kidney and adrenal function, liver function, bone disease, tissue disease or damage, heart function, liver function, muscle function, coronary heart disease.
Participants can also choose a Thyroid Screening, Prostate Disease Screening, Vitamin D, A1C (Diabetes), Blood Typing, Vitamin B12, and Testosterone (men).
Test results are mailed directly to you within 2-3 weeks. Bring your test results to your doctor. Testing is available to those 18 years of age and over.
The fair will also feature the Mobile Mammogram, provided by Providence Imaging Services, to give local access to screening mammograms—a quick and essential step in early breast cancer detection. Mammograms are recommended for women 40 and older or younger for those with a family history or increased risk factors. Most insurance companies will cover the costs.
Visitors can also stop by the Willow CERT booth in the lobby for information on safety and Emergency Preparedness.
The health fair will be held at the Willow Community Center this Saturday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome, though people can set an appointment online for quicker service.
