WILMA GRACE

MARQUISS

Former King Salmon resident Mrs. Grace Marquiss, 67, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at the Belmont Terrace Nursing Home in Bremerton, Wash.

Memorial services were Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the Sand Lake LDC Chapel, 3250 Strawberry Rd., in Anchorage. The Rev. Allen Swenson will officiate. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2006 at the Hickerson Memorial Cemetery in Homer.

She was born Dec. 17, 1938, in Spokane, Wash. She moved to Alaska in 1957 and moved to Eagle River in 1962, where she worked for the Eagle River U.S. Postal Service from 1967 until retiring in 1976. She moved to King Salmon in 1982, where she lived until 2003. She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Churches. She enjoyed fishing, photography, nature watching, sightseeing and traveling.

&#8220If you include all the people who called her ‘Mom' as her own children, our mother's children numbered in the dozens, if not hundreds. Her own children's school friends in Eagle River, numerous GI's in King Salmon and her new neighbors in Bremerton all called her Mom almost immediately upon meeting her, because it came naturally once you experienced her easy way of listening to whatever you had to say, helping with whatever problem you had and offering guidance without judgment. We share the grief of this loss with all the children of our mother,” her family wrote.

Grace is survived by her husband of 46 years, Dennis Marquiss of Bremerton; sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Lisa Marquiss of Wasilla, Steven and Robin Marquiss of Fairbanks, and Ray and Teri Marquiss of San Jose; daughter, Denise Marquiss of Fairbanks; sister, Bobbie and her husband Richard Stanley of Anchorage; and eight grandchildren, Heath, Christynne, Travis, Gregory, Colin, Christopher, Spencer and Carly.

Arrangements were by the Homer Funeral Home.

She was born April 4, 1944, in Anchorage, and resided in Trapper Creek.

&#8220Ruby spread love and happiness to her family and any friend she met,” her family wrote. &#8220She was always there with a smile and loved to laugh.
