Colony High School’s Whitney Winders of Wasilla won third place at the Poetry Out Loud State Finals on March 27. She represented the Mat-Su School District after winning the local competition for the second year in a row. First place went to Aryeh Lax from Steller Secondary School in Anchorage and the first runner-up was Chaya Pike from Sitka High School. Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country.
