Winds blow Winterfest plans

WASILLA — City of Wasilla officials were forced to postpone a portion of its Wasilla Winterfest schedule due to persistent winds that have buffeted the Mat-Su Valley. City officials confirmed late Friday afternoon that a slate of festivities — such as golf, pond hockey and horse shoes —to be hosted on the ice of Wasilla Lake have been called off. The city plans to reschedule the events at a later date.

The fireworks show is still scheduled to start Saturday at 7 p.m.
