Winners have been chosen in the cover design contest for the new book from the Forget Me Not Mission in Alaska.
The organization’s mission is to combat underage, impaired and distracted driving in Alaska, according to director Nancy Bidwell.
Bidwell said 43 entries were received for the cover contest for the new book “Soul Shaking Grief Teen Edition,” which was open to all Alaska teens from May to Oct. 1.
The winning design selected was by Sarah Webb, an 11th-grader from West Valley High School in Fairbanks. She won an iPad2 and her design will be on the cover of the Soul Shaking Grief Teen Edition.
The book is a follow-up for teens to a “Soul Shaking Grief” book already in use by 65 agencies across Alaska, Bidwell said.
She said students in a Chugiak High School journalism class put that book together and students from Susan Brunner’s journalism class at Colony High are working with the group on the new book’s layout and design.
Bidwell said the teen edition of the book is on target to be published by the end of the year and will be given away free at all Alaska Fred Meyer and Safeway stores.
Mat-Su Valley winners are:
• Second place — Ashlyn Dorn, Wasilla High School sophomore, won a $300 Best Buy gift card.
• Honorable mention — Bailey Jones, Wasilla High School junior, and Tong Thao, Colony High School junior.
